Customer Review = I’ll give it provisionally 4 stars sight unseen just so I can pass on some info I found by digging on Toro’s web site (it took some digging — their product pages still only show the older model 38025.)
The 38381 is identified as “model year 2011″ of the 1800 Power Curve Snow Thrower. Curiously, the online data has the motor as 14 amps instead of 15. I guess we’ll see what’s on the tag when we get it.
I was concerned about power cord requirements with the more powerful motor. According to the 38381 manual, 14 gauge can be used up to 100 feet and 12 gauge up to 150 feet. Those are described as minimum requirements, so I’d consider getting 12 gauge at 100 feet to be sure to deliver full power output from the motor.
It does look like Toro has addressed some of the user issues with the 38025 (e.g. dinky wheels).
We live in central Maryland where last winter we shoveled out the biggest snowfall in area history. After that experience we are not waiting to put in our order for this product.
